A Case of Hemolytic Anemia of the newborn due to anti-C

Abstract
The prevalence of isoimmune hemolytic anemia of newborn due to anti-C is rare because C antigenicity is relatively weak, compared with that of other minor group antigens. Authors recently experienced a case of hemolytic anemia of the newborn due
to
anti-C.
A three-day old male newborn infant was admitted at Kyung Hee University Hospital because of severe jaundice and anemia developed within the several hours after birth. The patient's mother had past history of blood transfusion during the Cesarean
section delivery of this patient. Direct and indirect antiglobulin test showed positive reaction for specimens of patient and his mother. Anti-C antibody was confirmed in serum of patient and his mother by antibody screening and identification
test
using 11 panel cells. The blood groups of patient were B. CcDEe and those of patient's mother were AB, cDE. The patient was treated with both phototherapy and exchange transfusion and recovered from anemia and jaundice. Authors report this case
with a
brief review of literatures.
